Jimmy Haslip

The fantastic bassplayer: Jimmy Haslip is the famous bassplayer from Yellowjackets, and a very well session player in Los Angeles, and the rest of US. Jimmy was part of the LA music academy Europe tour 2000. Engqvist had allready negotiated a studio session with the guitarplayer on that tour, Frank Gambale. Engqvist had not in his wildest dreams imagined that the project could afford to hire Jimmy Haslip for a session too. Now you got to belive that Jimmy is a very sweet person, and after a little talk, and negotiation, Jimmy were delighted to do a tune on the latest "Engqvist orkester" CD Optimism.

The drummer Henrik Engqvist, and the rest of the band were very exited to play with the most respected bass player worldwide on the Jazz/Fusion scene. Mr. Haslip got the chart of the song, and took a quick look a it. The session went fantastic, and the musicians locked very fast. Believe it or not, after a few reharsals we cut "Things in life you dont wanna miss" in 2nd take. Jimmy dubbed his bass solo at the end of the song, and then he was out off there.

He actually had a very tight schedule during the LAMA tour doing workshops, and private lessons that day, but no haste and stress. Jimmy really showed his overview and his talented and professional attitude. Can you believe this young Danish band "Engqvist Orkester" sitting in the studio with Frank Gambale on guitar, Jimmy Haslip on Bass, and Troels Skovgaard as producer.........? Well, the result is on the CD "Optimism"
